Have you ever felt stuck in a situation, afraid to take risks or step out of your comfort zone? It’s a common feeling that many of us experience at some point in our lives. We often find ourselves in a boat, navigating the waters of life, but sometimes we’re called to do something extraordinary – to walk on water.

In Matthew 14:22-33, there’s a powerful story of Jesus walking on water and Peter, one of his disciples, stepping out of the boat to join him. The disciples were in a boat, battling against the wind and waves, when they saw Jesus walking towards them on the water. At first, they were terrified, thinking it was a ghost. But Jesus reassured them and told them not to be afraid.

Peter, known for his impulsive nature, responded to Jesus’ call and said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Jesus simply said, “Come.” Peter then stepped out of the boat and began to walk on water towards Jesus. But as he took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the strong wind, he began to sink. He cried out to Jesus, and immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him, saying, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

This story holds powerful lessons for us today. It’s a reminder of the importance of taking risks, stepping out of our comfort zones, and having faith, even when facing challenges. Here are some key insights we can glean from this story:

  1. Embrace the Unknown: Stepping out of the boat means stepping into the unknown. It’s about venturing into new territory, taking risks, and embracing uncertainty. It’s not always easy, and fear may try to hold us back, but growth often happens outside of our comfort zones.
  2. Keep Your Eyes on the Vision: Peter was able to walk on water as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus. But the moment he focused on the wind and waves, he began to sink. This teaches us the importance of keeping our eyes on the vision, the goal we want to achieve, rather than getting distracted by the obstacles or challenges along the way.
  3. Trust in Faith: When Peter started sinking, he cried out to Jesus, and Jesus immediately reached out his hand to save him. It’s a powerful reminder that even when we falter or doubt, our faith can sustain us. Trusting in a higher power, a greater purpose, or our own capabilities can give us the courage to step out of the boat and overcome challenges.
  4. Learn from Failure: Peter’s moment of doubt and sinking was not a failure; it was a lesson. We all face setbacks and failures in life, but it’s how we respond to them that matters. Peter learned from his experience and grew stronger in his faith. Similarly, when we step out of our comfort zones, we may face setbacks, but we can use them as opportunities for learning and growth.
  5. Support from Community: Peter wasn’t alone in the boat; he had his fellow disciples with him. Likewise, having a supportive community can make a significant difference when we’re taking risks or stepping into the unknown. Surrounding ourselves with people who believe in us, encourage us, and provide guidance can help us navigate through challenges with more confidence and resilience.

Stepping out of the boat requires courage, faith, and a willingness to embrace the unknown. It’s about taking risks and trusting in ourselves and a higher power. It’s not always easy, and we may face challenges along the way, but the rewards can be immeasurable. So, let’s be inspired by Peter’s example and dare to step out,
